Colorado Public Radio (CPR) has been awarded certification by the Journalism Trust Initiative (JTT) for meeting JTT’s international standards of transparency, independence and professionalism. 

Described as an international benchmark initiated by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), the certification is designed to fight disinformation while rewarding professional excellence. 

CPR, which says it is the first to achieve such certification, was audited by the Alliance for Audited Media (AAM).  

“AAM is proud to verify that Colorado Public Radio has met the requirements surrounding transparency, professionalism and accountability to earn certification from the Journalism Trust Initiative,” says Tom Drouillard, AAM CEO and managing director. 

CPR, a non-profit organization that delivers news, music, and cultural experiences, to Coloradans, conducted a self-assessment of its editorial practices, an exercise designed by JTI. AAM reviewed the self-analysis, which is published online. 

“Going through this process is an endorsement of our standards, but also helps us ensure our values are understood inside and outside of the newsroom,” says Kevin Dale, news executive editor at CPR. 

AAM’s Drouillard adds, “JTI aligns with our continuing mission to help quality media earn greater industry recognition for their commitment to trust."
