How This Uber Marketer Is Moving The World Forward

Behind the Scenes with Kinjal Mehta

Uber's Kinjal Mehta talks pushing boundaries, learning to speak up, and filling in the gaps at work.

I've had the opportunity to connect with and learn from executives of major brands at MediaPost's Insider Summits. In the process I've discovered some truly impressive women -- not only for the work they do, but their stories behind the scenes. With Brand Insider: BTS, I get to pull back the curtain on some of the most influential women marketers as they talk about their path to success: the twists and turns, obstacles, inspirations and the valuable lessons learned along the way.

“It's funny when you kind of look back now, and you think about, oh gosh, like my visa had issues, and it was the most devastating moment in my life. And it's funny, I can't even remember what the issue was anymore. So I feel like everything happens for a reason, and I very truly believe in that. So if things go wrong, it's fine.” It certainly turned out fine for Kinjal Mehta. Losing her job and being sent back to India forced the Uber lead product manager to reassess her goals, setting her off on an unexpected career path. In this episode of Brand Insider: BTS, Kinjal admits that tech had never been on her radar, but is grateful for the redirect. She goes on to talk about the need for compassion and empathy in today’s tech-driven world, how she learned to take initiative, and why you should always ask questions, even when they seem dumb.
