David D. Smith Acquires 'The Baltimore Sun'

David D. Smith, executive chairman of the Sinclair network of television stations, has acquired The Baltimore Sun in a deal with Alden Global Capital.  

Terms were not disclosed.  

This will be the first time The Sun will have a local owner in almost four decades, according to The New York Times. 

The Baltimore Sun is a venerable publication that dates back to 1837.
