There's nothing unusual about seeing celebrities in advertising, except of course when the ad in question has a whole bunch of them. That's the case with a new spot currently airing for the California
Department of Tourism. This one features Clint Eastwood, "Desperate Housewives" star Teri Hatcher, beach volleyballer Misty May and skateboarder Tony Hawk. The spot differs from other celebrity
endorser ads in other ways as well, like in the time it took to produce. From start to finish, this one consumed almost five months--not filming, but waiting. "When you work with celebrities, it's
always time-consuming," says Dave Mering, the producer for the Department of Tourism's ad agency. For example, Hatcher, who's appeared on countless magazine covers in the past year, was approached
last October and expressed interest. But it took until February to get her in front of a camera. In the finished spot, Hatcher is shown at Disneyland, escorted by Mickey and Minnie. She sets up the
spot's tagline--"Do you feel lucky?"--delivered by Eastwood as he strokes a putt on the seventh green at Pebble Beach.
