With carriage deals in place with the main cable systems operators and DirecTV, News Corp. could roll out the Fox News Business Channel as early as this month,
Ad Age reports, citing
anonymous sources. However, the channel "has already had a few false starts," and the story notes it has been more than two years since Rupert Murdoch first aired the idea. Since June, when another
report suggested it was close to a deal with Time Warner, "executives at Fox News have consistently refused to acknowledge that the channel would even draw a breath of airtime until distribution was
in hand." The channel is also apt to draw its personnel largely from existing Fox News operations,
Ad Age says "because cable-industry recruiters say there's been precious little activity on
the hiring front and programming is likely to have the same provocative opinion format that characterizes many of Fox News Channel's current business shows."
