Visitors Flock To Yahoo FIFA

The Yahoo site created by FIFA for the 2006 World Cup in soccer attracted more than 5 million unique visitors on June 9th, the first day of the championship, according to Web ratings firm comScore Networks. This number dipped slightly through the rest of the opening weekend to an average of around 4.4 million unique visitors. To serve visitors coming from every part of the globe, the FIFA site allows users to choose from one of eight major languages, but fully 57 percent of page views were in English. Spanish followed with 14 percent of page views, while Japanese accounted for 6 percent and Chinese 3 percent. comScore also reported that the BBC's Web site drew more than 1 million visits worldwide on opening day.
