Multitasking A Myth?

  • by March 14, 2008
The myth that kids are master multitaskers is not supported by cognitive research. Cognitive research does not support that kids' brains are better equipped than adults to handle multitasking; in fact research shows that learning goes down with distraction. Just because we can multitask does not mean it is a good thing for kids or adults.

This myth is helping contribute to the problem of ADD and what I call "multitasking addiction." Here is a recent post on the subject (I am guilty of multitasking too). Focusing on one thing and doing it well is becoming a lost skill. We seem to be content with doing many things simultaneously and average. Turning off a few devices may be the best way to improve learning / focus / quality. Thank you,
