TV Award Shows Waning, Bravo Adds Another

In a burst of optimism, Bravo will present its first "A-List Award" this week, a new entry to the increasingly crowded field of cable and broadcast awards shows. Channels from TV Land to Spike have introduced awards shows lately, even as the audiences get smaller and smaller.

No doubt The People's Choice awards and Golden Globes were hurt by the writers' strike. But the Emmys, Grammys and Oscars all suffered their lowest-ever ratings this year even though they were unhampered by the strike.

Bravo is unfazed. Its awards ceremony airing on Thursday night honors the creative process in fashion, food and design, and promotes a bevy of Bravo celebrities, including host Kathy Griffin. "We want to create one night where all of Bravo's worlds collide," says programming chief Andy Cohen.
