Digital Video Execs Weigh in on Economy

Worried about the economy? Digital video exec David Prager takes the long view. “The evolution of the way media is consumed is going to change no matter what,” the Revision3 founder said, adding that regardless of what’s going on with the economy now, the Internet will soon be the de facto media delivery hub for all devices.

Felicia Williams, Director of Community Programming for Next New Networks, said the weak economic climate is forcing her company to further embrace the limitations of online video. “We’re not TV. We’re never going to be TV.” She said the economic slump is teaching NNN to build models that aren’t the studio’s models.

Safran Group COO Jake Zim was far more worried about the affect of a bad economy on smaller digital video producers. “I think it’s an extremely challenging time,” he said, adding that he sees VCs and private equity firms cutting their budgets. “There was a lot of fat, a lot of cheap money.” He added that tighter credit could cause VCs and large media companies to hoard cash instead of spending it on new media.
