Mobile Messaging Gets Boost From Obama Election

  • November 6, 2008
Mobile messaging traffic surged Tuesday night immediately following the official confirmation of Barack Obama's election as U.S. President, according to mobile services provider Sybase 365.

The volume of messages tripled between 11:00 and 11:10 p.m. EST. Between 7 p.m. and midnight, U.S. subscribers sent more than 1.2 billion messages, according to Sybase. The total volume of text messages Tuesday was about 10% higher than the previous day.

The spike in mobile messaging seems only fitting, since the Obama campaign gained wide attention for using the mobile format to announce the selection of Joe Biden as Obama's running mate.--Mark Walsh
