It had to happen. One U.S. state one day had to name an official state car. It should have been California, since it has more cars than any other state, but no, it's Kentucky. Kentucky? Shouldn't they have a state horse?

General Motors reports that Gov. Steve Beshear officially signed House Bill 104 stating that the Chevrolet Corvette is now the Official Sports Car of Kentucky. To be fair, the legendary sports car has been built at GM's Bowling Green plant for nearly 30 years. It is the only place that the car is made, so no other state is likely to have an argument.

"As home to the Corvette plant in Bowling Green, Kentuckians have long considered the Corvette to be Kentucky's sports car and a great symbol of Kentucky pride and craftsmanship," Beshear said at the bill signing at the Bowling Green plant.

The plant also has the National Corvette Museum. General Motors also runs a program where buyers of new 'Vettes can actually travel to the plant and take delivery of their baby as it rolls off the line. State Rep. Jody Richards, D-Bowling Green, was the primary sponsor of the bill.
