11 Jeggings Jegging: Shopkick Debuts '12 Days' Holiday Promotion

Continuing to ramp up its holiday push, location-based service shopkick has launched a promotion dubbed "The 12 Days of Kickmas" giving shoppers a chance to win one of 12 daily prize packages just by walking into the stores of shopkick retail partners such as Best Buy, Target and Macy's.
Thousands of prizes are expected to be awarded during the sweepstakes that runs from Black Friday to Christmas Eve and culminates in a grand prize of 4.25 million "kickbucks," or reward points, toward product purchases. The value of kickbucks varies by retailer, but the grand prize is equal to between $10,000 and $20,000.
When someone using shopkick's iPhone or Android app enters a participating store, they will receive 50 entries to the sweepstakes in addition to whatever kickbucks that retailer provides. Overall, more than 31 million kickbucks will be awarded, allowing thousands of people to redeem their winnings for prizes ranging from song downloads to a flat-screen TV.
Prizes will be given away in the form of "kickbucks" that can be redeemed at the seven participating retailers. So, for example, one might redeem bucks at Best Buy for "12 drums for drummers" on the first day, followed by bagging 11 pairs of "jeggings" at American Eagle Outfitters and Wet Seal.
Other stores involved in the holiday effort include Simon Mall and Sports Authority. Only last week, shopkick added Target and Wet Seal as retailers using its mobile-based rewards system. In addition to getting points just by entering a store, customers can also earn additional kickbucks by scanning products with the shopkick app.
Started in 2009, Palo Alto, Calif.-based shopkick has raised $20 million to date from investors including Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Greylock Partners and LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman. The much-publicized service formally launched in August at Best Buy, Macy's and other stores.
