Why Netflix's Original Content Deal Has Legs

According to All Things Digital's Peter Kafka, Netflix's potential deal to distribute a new TV show -- "House of Cards," a political drama based on a British miniseries -- could be smart strategy for the company, even if it does wind up costing $100 million or more.

Why? Distributing original content could be used as a bargaining chip when negotiating with studios and pay channels for their content, he argues.
