First Two My Trio Programmers Announced

  • June 17, 2003
Writer/director Quentin Tarantino and Time magazine columnist Joel Stein have been commissioned for the first two quarterly editions of My Trio, where guest programmers schedule the network's primetime lineup for a week. My Trio: Joel Stein Week begins Sunday, July 20, at 9 p.m. with the premiere of a half-hour special that explains his programming choices for the week. The special features clips from the upcoming week's shows as well as phone interviews with Welcome Back, Kotter's Gabe Kaplan, Jeff Altman and Greg Fitzsimons. The first episode of Trio's limited original series, Good Clean Porn, follows at 9:30 p.m.

Stein's hand-selected series to air will include the Battle of the Network Stars, a reality series that ran from 1976 to 1983. Other series include Pink Lady and Jeff, a 1980 series that features a female Japanese rock duo named Pink Lady and comedian Jeff Altman. There are five episodes of the 1960s series My Mother the Car, which starred Jerry Van Dyke. "We're taking our pop culture mission one step further by hiring the icons and arbiters of pop culture to program Trio for a week at a time. Whether it's film, television, comedy or anything else, Trio will be obsessed with whatever cultural artifacts our curators are obsessed with," said Lauren Zalaznick, president of Trio. In October, My Trio: Quentin Tarantino Week premieres Sunday, Oct. 5, and runs through Monday, Oct. 13. Further details will follow.
