Orbitz Revamps Facebook Presence, Launches New Promo

Travel site Orbitz.com has redesigned its Facebook page and launched a new promotion in connection with its 10th anniversary. The company's redesigned presence on the social network features two new sections: travel content and information on special deals and offers.

The "Are You In The Know" page includes ideas on where to go and where to stay from Orbitz experts, interactive weekly polls, Q&A interviews and travel-themed photo galleries. The section debuts with a feature on the top 5 celebrity hotels (and "affordable alternatives"), a poll on what celebrity you'd like to travel with, and a series of travel-related questions that encourage user responses. These include queries like "What movies make you want to go on vacation?" and 'What's your vacation guilty pleasure?"

The "Fans Fly Free" page will keep people updated about new travel promotions and give them access to contests and sweepstakes. It will also include exclusive giveaways for Orbitz Facebook fans. In that vein, Orbitz is giving away 100 free round-trip flights to Las Vegas to the first 10 fans each day who book a hotel room for two or more nights at an MGM Resort.

Now through May 13, users who apply a promo code from the Fans Fly Free page when they book accomodations at a participating MGM hotel will have a chance to win a free Las Vegas trip.

"The new additions to the Orbitz Facebook Fan page allow us to better engage with consumers and build a community of travelers in a way that mirrors the actual experience of travel -- interactive, social and fun," stated Sam Fulton, senior vice president of retail, Orbitz Worldwide. With almost 33,000 fans, the company's Facebook page has a lot of room to grow. The top 50 brands on Facebook, including YouTube, Starbucks and Forever 21, have between 4 million and 37 million fans, according to social media-focused agency Ignite.
