'Imported From Hamtramck' For Super Bowl?

If you didn’t know the auto business, you'd be excused for thinking Hamtramck is a Scandinavian veal dish. But it's actually an auto manufacturing hub near Detroit where General Motors makes its Volt electric car.  If the town gets lucky, everyone will soon know about it as Chevrolet is mulling making the town central to a new ad for the Volt to air during the Super Bowl on Feb. 5.

A film crew spent weeks there late last year interviewing and filming Hamtramck residents for the ad, which may wll take a page from Chrysler's "Imported From Detroit" Super Bowl ad last year. As for whether the spot will run during the game broadcast, "We haven't decided yet," said GM spokesman Patrick Morrissey, who added that the Detroit automaker will air five Super Bowl ads. "The final decision will come in a few weeks."

The crew filmed the Hamtramck Coney Island restaurant, poet Vievee Francis, Acts 29, the urban Christian ministry, the Hamtramck High School wrestling team, and a bartender from Whiskey in the Jar, among others.  Several participants filmed said they believe the ad's theme is a regular day in Hamtramck, intertwined with the making of the Chevy Volt.
