Shazam Lets Fans Hear What Stars Are Listening To

One question I think most people have about their favorite musicians is: what do they listen to when they’re not making music themselves? Well, now we can find out courtesy of Shazam, which is introducing a new feature that allows fans to follow their favorite musicians and find out what music they’re discovering through Shazam’s audio recognition technology.

Through the new functionality users can stalk – I mean, listen along with famous recording artists like Pitbull, Calvin Harris, Coldplay, Meghan Trainor, Avicii, Usher, Maroon 5 and Jason Derulo, among others who have signed up to share their music discovery with the world. Users browsing artists can now choose to follow them simply by touching a button; the artists’ newly discovered music will then appear automatically in their followers’ Shazam accounts.

The service will also keep fans updated with information about the artists’ new singles, albums, and videos. Finally, through an integration with Apple Music they can also listen to songs the artists have Shazamed by tapping a new button, "Listen on Apple Music." The new feature is launching with over 30 high-profile artists on board, and plans to add hundreds more in the near future.

Shazam also unveiled some other new features, including sharing the number of times each song has been Shazamed.

According to Shazam CEO Rich Riley, Shazam users currently turn to the mobile audio recognition technology 20 million times a day to identify music they hear playing around them.

On the advertising side, last month Havas Group’s pure-play mobile practice, Mobext, signed a deal with Shazam, giving it access to the latter's data and services for mobile retargeting and profiling of mobile users around the world, as well as Shazam’s proprietary music prediction models.
