Just An Online Minute... California Here We Come

Right back where we started from. Okay, you know the mobile segment's hot when a games publisher says it will market the Fox hit "The O.C." as a mobile video game.

Yes, that's right. Our favorite angst-ridden teen drama is headed for the smaller screen (TV is, after all, the "small" screen), with Gameloft planning the first game to launch next year. The games publisher already markets mobile games based on the movie "War of the Worlds."

The "O.C." game will allow fans to play as one of the show's four main characters -- Ryan, Marissa, Seth, or Summer -- or to create their own character. Game play is reportedly similar to reality-simulation titles and will enable players to sample "The O.C." lifestyle. Gameloft is said to be working closely with the show's creators, with key moments from the previous two seasons of the show worked into the game.

Mmmm. Can't wait to see whether Ryan ends up in jail again or whether Marissa ends up a bulemic. But seriously, if the game's well-executed, it could become a cult hit, at least as long as the show remains one. We're not sure about that one -- the first two episodes of the new season seemed kind of, well...lame.

On another mobile front, Billboard reports that the band the Presidents of the United States of America shot its latest video using only mobile phone cameras. That just may be a first. The video for the band's "Some Postman" was reportedly filmed in Seattle in only a day using several Sony-Ericsson mobile video phones. If this catches on, the advertising industry, its high-priced agencies, production company partners, and all related hangers-on could be in even more trouble than they are already. We don't know what the associated costs were, but you can bet your bottom dollar they were less expensive than shooting a regular music video.
