Glam Media Snags iVillage's Salant To Lead Biz Dev

Fashion and shopping e-publisher Glam Media has hired iVillage executive Jennifer Salant to lead its expansion and business development strategy.

Most recently vice president of operations and strategic partnerships at iVillage, Salant spent over seven year at NBC's female-focused Web publisher charting its partnership efforts early on, along with overseeing secondary ad revenue, licensing agreements, and digital commerce.

"As an early innovator in women's Web content, Jennifer intimately understands how to package advertising and content--aimed at a targeted audience--and to help bring brand advertising to the Web," said Samir Arora, chairman and CEO of Glam Media.

Glam Media has aggressively pursued a number of growth initiatives since securing $18.5 million in venture capital late last year. Along with this major hire, Glam in December established itself as a viable distribution platform by hosting an exclusive preview of Oxygen Network's season premiere of The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency.

Also in December, Glam struck a deal with Hearst Magazines to distribute content from Marie Claire magazine on Glam.com. Glam.com is also linking to other Hearst publications in an effort to promote subscriptions and circulation.

In addition, Glam is looking to grow through mergers and acquisitions, according to Arora. Other plans include expanding internationally and branching out beyond fashion and shopping.

Clearly a company to be reckoned with, Glam Media now attracts 8.4 million monthly unique visitors stateside, and 15 million globally. The site is now number two in Top 10 Women's Web properties, according to comScore Media Metrix.

And thanks to its growing popularity, Glam CPMs presently go for $20 to $30 for static, non-rich branded media placements, and $50 to $125 for more integrated branding placements.

Prior to joining iVillage, Salant was a business analyst for Mitchell Madison Group, a global strategic management consulting firm.
