Circuit City and 17 affiliates filed for Chapter 11 protection from creditors with the U.S. bankruptcy court in Richmond, Va., this morning "in order to continue its turnaround efforts"
according to CFO Bruce Besanko.

meanwhile, reports that Best Buy is "thinking outside the big box." A store that opened Friday in the Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, Ill., is one of three three expanded Best Buy Mobile
stores that will sell mobile phones from a range of manufacturers, as well as wireless services from all major carriers. Shoppers also can find hand-held gadgets, including iPods, net books and an
assortment of other mobile products.
