Just An Online Minute... Don't Ask, Don't Tell

Goings On, All Over, New York
Starting Now, Never Ending, 2009

The subject I'm referring to is age. I've never been shy about revealing my age, ever. In fact, I used to pull a few premature grays to the frontlines so people would assume I was older. I never even bothered to get a fake ID in my younger years because 1) I'm a horrible liar (try me); 2) I appear 10 years old; and 3) I look guilty. Always. Why am I talking about age? Because, friends and neighbors, next week kicks off a major event. I know some of you are thinking "Social Media Week!!" but you're wrong. The real reason to celebrate is that next week is my birthday week. I expect a Snuggie. So what does a media social diarist do to celebrate? Oh, you know, attend a ridiculous amount of events with good people like you.

Before we hop into the week celebrating the moment I shot out of the birth canal, let me just tell you that tonight is going to be awesome. You know the CollegeHumor site, right? I don't care how old you are, you have to admit that at some point, one of your weird sweaty friends either IMd or emailed you a link, exclaiming "you HAVE to see this, ROFL" [phonetically "roffle" for those in the know]. Anyway, it's crass, sometimes funny, and just typical humor of testosterone-powered potential cellar-dwellers who will no doubt create the next Google and laugh in our cash poor faces. Tonight is the premiere party for their MTV stardom try, "The CollegeHumor Show." Wait, I thought the Internet was the big platform... it's TV? As an aside, the creators are from Baltimore, which makes them double awesome.

This Friday - 2/6, there will be a Social Happy Digital Hour at 6p.m in the NYC.  On Twitter follow or direct message (DM) either @joemarchese or @socialmedium for logisticals. Joe Marchese, SocialVibe superhero, has slapped it together so I know it will be a good time.

Moving onto next week: The premiere party for my 32nd year on earth. Frankly (my dear), I already had the week packed. Suddenly, someone decided to call it Social Media Week. I glanced at the official Social Media Week schedule and saw some of the same events. So really, it was just "a week" up until someone put the umbrella of social media over it. Go figure. Let me know if I'll be seeing you at any of these events. Oh yeah, and if you're there, poke my elbow so I can grab a shot of you with your goons.

Tuesday 2/10 Social Media Roundtable at Fleishman Hillard from 4-6 p.m. ""When Social Media Becomes Unsociable." Hmm, would that make it surly media?

Tuesday 2/10 I Heart PRNewser party from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Joe Ciarallo and Jason Chupick, editors of PRNewser, are playing a little cupid game here, asking attendees to bring along one single friend. I don't think I'll last until 8:30 p.m. -- the thought of randy PR types selling each other instead of products, services, and CIOs makes me chunder in my tooth cave a little.

Wednesday 2/11, the date of my birth. The Shorty Awards from 7:30 p.m. until Twitter implodes. The Shorty Awards will honor the best short content creators (on Twitter, the 140 characters or less microblogging platform that asks "what are you doing" to which I often answer something like "eating...") of 2008. All I have to say is "Please, @MCHammer, don't hurt 'em."

Thursday 2/12, a little networking action at Arc90, the lovely people who provided a spill over, and much less agoraphobic-seizure-inducing, party during the infamous Mashable networking shenanigans, from 7-830 p.m., and THEN heading over to play at Twestival (I honk at the whole Tw+word= Twitter inspired phrase, but hell, it's for a good cause, and I'm excited to meet some of these folks in the flesh!) from 8:30-10:30 p.m.

Friday 2/13 -- Heading to my secret lair.

There are events during the week that I'd love to 100% commit to, but unfortunately the online calendar they're using is Swiss-cheese-like in detail, with lots of "TBA"s and "Details coming shortly"s. I hope they realize that today is Thursday and Social Media Week starts on Monday...

To what address should I send the Snuggie? Great piece as usual Kelly :) Fun, yet purposeful and worth hanging on to (for a week, anyway). And happy birthday!

Thanks Monica! You can send it to my attention at the MediaPost address in the footer :P But really, thanks for reading - next week is going to be ridiculous.
