Mark Silber
Joule Executive Creative DirectorMark and his team are responsible for conceiving and executing strategic mobile marketing concepts as well as envisioning the mobile user experience. Mark works with clients to develop mobile strategies and also manages a team of brand strategists, UX professionals, content developers and designers. Prior to joining Joule, Mark ran Silberware Communications, a brand strategy and design consultancy. Before that he was co-founder and chief marketing officer of Primordial, a venture-funded e-business consultancy. He was also partner, executive creative director of USWeb/CKS (aka marchFIRST), an international ebusiness technology and design firm, and vice president, executive creative director of Grey Interactive, the digital marketing arm of Grey Advertising Worldwide. In the pre-Internet age he worked as a copywriter at Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising and IPG's Lowe & Partners. An honors graduate of Harvard College, Mark has earned numerous industry accolades, including Cannes Interactive, CASIE, the Clios, the EFFIEs, the New York International Film Festival and the One Show.

Planning on Tablets: Is This a Medium Yet?

Tablets are a bright shiny object that brands and agencies have wanted to “get on board” “get in front of” and “be aligned with,” which resulted in some noble and dazzling tests over the last two years. But ultimately marketing needs operational efficiency, repeatable results and scale. Is this tablet – part app library, part DVR, part Web browser, part digital magazine – evolving into something that marketers can plan, budget and mix with the rest of the media plan? And with the success of Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble’s Nook color, are these Android-powered reader platforms poised to fragment developer attention and budgets even more? Tens of millions of eyeballs and fingertips are engaged with these things every day (especially nights), but do brands really need a “tablet strategy” yet?
