    Federal Communications Commission Chair Ajit Pai has been renominated by President Donald Trump for another term at the agency. Pai's new term will expire in July 2021.
  • Copyright Troll Pleads Guilty To Fraud
    John Steele, who helped mastermind a plan to sue Web users for infringing copyright by downloading pornography, pleaded guilty on Monday to mail fraud and wire fraud. In the plea agreement, Steele admitted to hatching a plan “to fraudulently obtain copyright lawsuit settlements by deceiving state and federal courts throughout the country.” Along with a partner, he used sham companies to acquire copyrights to the films, posted them to file-sharing sites, and then filed more than 200 copyright infringement lawsuits against the alleged downloaders after learning their …
  • Sprint Floats Merger With T-Mobile Or Comcast To White House
    Sprint is considering merging with T-Mobile or Comcast, in hopes of fulfilling "a long-held ambition to invest aggressively in wireless networks in the United States and enable next-generation mobile technology," The New York Times reports. Last month, executives from SoftBank (which controls Sprint) reportedly spoke with "senior members" of President Donald Trump's economic team.
  • Amazon Exits Broadband Selling Business
    Amazon has exited the broadband selling business, according to DSLReports. The company launched a cable store last year, but at launch it only featured Comcast service. Amazon later added service by Frontier. DSLReports says it's not clear why Amazon killed the initiative.  
  • Cable Industry Cheers FCC For Staying Data Security Rules
    Trade groups representing Internet service providers are cheering the FCC's decision to lift a new rule requiring ISPs to use reasonable data security measures. The agency's move "is a welcome recognition that consumers benefit most when privacy protections are consistently applied throughout the Internet ecosystem," NCTA -- The Internet & Television Association, stated in response to the move.
