MSNBC Buys Twitter News Service

Fledgling newswire service BNO, started by a Dutch teenager, will hand over control of its massively popular Twitter account @breakingnews to MSNBC today, in a move that could mark a significant step forward for the young company. The account lets nearly 1.5 million people receive streams of news updates on their mobiles or the Web.

BNO is moving from focusing on Twitter and looking to services that can deliver profits, including a scheme to sell more specialized services to media companies in the new year. The financial terms of the deal have not disclosed, but the news network said it will be the first customer of the forthcoming wire service, due to launch in 2010. A 24-hour news team will man operations.
