Newsweek and
The Daily Beast are in final talks with the Newspaper Guild about staffing issues related to their merger. The union, which represents some 90 magazine editorial staffers,
is meeting with representatives of the companies. The outcome could provide some clarity for employees, especially about whether there will be future buyouts. Morale at the weekly has been declining
as Tina Brown, the editor of the combined entity, has been making hires and rumors of impending cuts are swirling. It's still unclear when the
Newsweek-Daily Beast deal will close and where
the staffs will work, but
Newsweek is expected to move from its lower Manhattan offices into the slick, West Side headquarters where Beast parent IAC is based.
