To The Cloud

This week I wanted to talk about an exiting new service that Amazon released recently and my experiences with it so far.

Apple, Microsoft, Google, seem to be the kings of revolutionizing our lives, but this time, someone beaten them to the punch. Amazon has gone ahead of all of them and released a brand spanking new cloud service for streaming music libraries. Amazon’s cloud server provides users with a new and exiting way to store ones music collection. Existing Amazon users are now free to upload their libraries to Amazon servers, and with the Amazon cloud player, users are now capable of playing their libraries from any computer or android device. It's quite impressive, because not only can you stream your music, you can actually download your server files to your devices. For example music I’ve uploaded from my laptop can be downloaded from the server to my desktop.

Server space is offered to users in tiers. Amazon provides 5gb of space, free of charge. Five gigabytes of storage adds up to around a thousand songs which is a pretty sweet deal. Its upgradable to 1000gb which is a hefty amount of storage, but it comes at a price. Server space that large will end up running you over $1000 a year. The other options are more practical and affordable, and lets face it, who needs a thousand gigs worth of space.

I myself have already made use of the 5 free gigs, considering that my music library is only around 10 gigs any ways, it’s a match made in heaven.

To the Cloud

I would recommend to everyone to at least try the service, and take advantage of the free server space. while I don’t have an android device, I’m sure it will work well with your android phones. So enjoy it while you can, and hopefully the there isn’t anything within the service that the music labels will deem sue-able, but I’m sure they will find something.
