Seventeen mag's efforts to reclaim readers older than the pub's names include campus events, "Freshman 15" blogs, and a 40-page supplement to its August issue, "Seventeen College
Style." The issue includes features on campus fashions and dorm room decorating tips.
"Seventeen views the supplement as a safe investment, citing data from the media research
firm GfK MRI showing that the number of 18- to 24-year-old women reading the magazine jumped by 17 percent in the last five years," writes Christine Haughney.
One big plus for
Seventeen, as opposed to other women's mags: its pages continue pictures of lower-priced clothes, according to Haughney. We love this quote from a 19-year-old reader: "Vogue, I
cannot afford a single thing in there. But in Seventeen I can afford most of all of it."
