A social media campaign has forced Tesco and Asda to remove Halloween costumes from stores. Asda’s promotion of a costume called “Mental
Patient Fancy Dress Costume”, selling for £20, sparked the fury of mental health workers. They took to Twitter to criticise Asda, which in turn apologised. In a series of Tweets, Asda
declared, “We’re deeply sorry one of our fancy dress costumes has upset people. This was an unacceptable error – the product was withdrawn immediately.”
