BBC's Rio Studio Plan Draws Complaints

The BBC is planning to build a new sports studio in central Rio, even though it already has a studio in a purpose-build block in the city. The BBC has said it has no choice to have two studios, as broadcasting restrictions prevent news reports being sent from the sports studio. Combined, rent and building costs will reach an estimated £500,000, a sizeable output when England will not be competing in Rio during the group stages next summer. This means that BBC teams will have to travel from Rio to the three cities where England will be playing.
