Sande Riesett started the Show Your Soft Side campaign for animals in Baltimore in 2011, a response to a string of animal abuse cases. Riesett, who owns a boutique ad agency, created the campaign "to change the mindset of young people," who think hurting cats and dogs is being tough. The first "softies" were Orioles outfielder Adam Jones, followed by MMA fighter John Rallo and then-Baltimore Ravens player Jarret Johnson.
