PayPal cofounder Peter Thiel has confirmed reports that he financed Hulk Hogan’s legal battle against Gawker Media. But, while he didn’t like having his sexuality exposed by the gossip
site, Thiel now says that his motivations go beyond revenge. “It’s less about revenge and more about specific deterrence,” he tells The New York Times. “I saw Gawker pioneer a
unique and incredibly damaging way of getting attention by bullying people even when there was no connection with the public interest.”
