For the first time in over 20 years, the USA Hockey Team will not have NHL players on its roster for the 2018 Winter Games, due to a decision by the league earlier this year to not allow its
contracted players to compete. USA Hockey has moved on, naming its roster from among a pool of some 100 players currently not on NHL contracts. The move has also impacted the Canadian men’s
hockey team, which has won the past two gold medals.
