Corporations Including General Motors Helped Remake Kitchens

The “Miracle Kitchen,” an exhibit at the American National Exhibition in Moscow’s Sokolniki Park, was a joint venture between Whirlpool and RCA. "The kitchen had been designed to intimidate Soviet visitors, and to engender in them a feeling of being have-nots, even as their government maintained an edge in the early years of the Space Race," according to Curbed. “Design for Dreaming,” a 1956 industrial short film, was created to promote Frigidaire’s “Kitchen of Tomorrow” at Motorama. During this era, Frigidaire was owned by General Motors. The automaker incorporated kitchen displays at its annual auto show, which was first staged at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York.
