McKinsey's Michael Wolf To Run MTV Networks

  • NY Times, Tuesday, November 1, 2005 11:46 AM
As the media industry's top management consultant for more than a decade, Michael Wolf has pulled the strings behind some of the biggest media companies in the world. Now he's going to begin pulling some strings in front of one: Viacom's MTV Networks. Wolf, managing partner, and head of the entertainment and media practice at McKinsey & Co., has been named president-COO of MTV Networks, reports today's New York Times. During his time at McKinsey and at Booz Allen Hamilton before that, Wolf has influenced the direction of companies such as Time Warner, News Corp. and Viacom. The move to MTV Networks comes just at Viacom is poised to split into two separate publicly traded companies: One called Viacom that will included MTV Networks and Viacom; and another expected to be called CBS, which will include CBS, UPN and Infinity. Wolf's insider knowledge of the innermost workings of the world's biggest media conglomerates could be a real strategic advantage for Tom Freston's new Viacom.
