Stacker, the news-syndication agency with a focus on data-driven
feature content, said on Monday it has named Micah Cohen to the newly created role of editor in chief. Cohen will oversee Stacker’s growing newsroom, leading content strategy and managing data
reporting and editorial.
Stacker, founded in 2017, taps such sources as the Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and Getty
Images, as well as private data sources, to develop untold stories that offer context around the data.
Its clients include Tribune Publishing, Hearst Newspapers, Lee Enterprises, Beasley Media
Group and members of the Local Media Consortium, and content is also posted on its own website.
Cohen joins Stacker from FiveThirtyEight, where he served as managing editor, overseeing
editorial strategy and execution. Before that he held the titles of deputy editor and senior editor there. He began his career as a news clerk at The New York Times.

“The world is
awash in data — good data and bad data, fun data and vital data, biased data and revelatory data,” Cohen said. “And the media is still playing catch-up as to what can and should be
done with all that information.... To have the chance to help a growing newsroom like Stacker tell ever more impactful stories is a privilege, and an opportunity I couldn’t pass up."
Stacker CEO Noah Greenberg said Cohen brings a high standard to his new role. “We are excited for him to elevate the quality journalism Stacker has always provided, and deepen our commitment
to providing accessible content and empowering publishers.”
In 2022, Stacker made the commitment to double its newsroom, hiring 20 new journalists by September.
