Michael McDermott Joins 'Worcester Telegram & Gazette' As Executive Editor

Michael McDermott, managing editor of the Providence Journal, has been named executive editor of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, the paper reports. He will start the end of the month.

McDermott is replacing Dave Nordman, who left in May for a post at Northeastern University after four years on the job.

The Telegram & Gazette and Providence Journal are both owned by Gannett.

McDermott, who has been in his post at the Journal for five years, has also served as a reporter for The Patriot Ledger of Quincy and as sports editor of the Providence Journal.

"The Telegram is an important institution in Central Mass., and I believe Michael will be an amazing steward at this important point in its history," said Lisa Strattan, New England regional editor for Gannett.

McDermott notes that he is joining the paper as Worcester celebrates its 300th anniversary. "I’m looking forward to getting to know the city and surrounding communities so that we can provide the best coverage today and in the years to come.”
