Vox Media Is Laying Off 39 Staffers: Report

Vox Media, publisher of New York Magazine, Vox and other titles, is letting go of 39 employees,CNBC reported on Wednesday, quoting anonymous sources.

The layoffs will affect people in sales, recruiting and editorial, but will not include positions at New York, Vox and The Verge, the report says. The firm is also slowing down its hiring.

Vox CEO Jim Bankoff informed the staff in a memo obtained by CNBC that the “current economic conditions are impacting companies like ours in multiple ways, with supply chain issues reducing marketing and advertising budgets across industries and economic pressures changing the ways that consumers spend. Our aim is to get ahead of greater uncertainty by making difficult but important decisions to pare back on initiatives that are lower priority or have lower staffing needs in the current climate.”

Bankoff claimed that the cuts will hit “under 2% of the company.”

CNBC continued that several staffers at Thrillist tweeted they had been laid off. Vox also publishes Eater, Curbed and Now This.
