'The Tierra Times', Weekly California Newspaper, Is Closing

The Tierra Times, a weekly newspaper serving the San Diego, California area, will publish its last issue on September 29.

The paper’s editor and co-publisher  Deanna Spehn, announced earlier this year that she was closing the paper, in part because of a decline in advertising revenue according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.”

The paper had a circulation of 10,000, according to the Tierra Times website.

Spehn began writing for the Tierrasanta Bulletin, the predecessor of the Tierra Tiems, in 1972, shortly after moving to Tierrasants.

During its existence, the Tierra Times covered big local events, including an artillery shell explosion that killed two eight year-old boys in 1983, the Union-Tribune continues.

Spehn commented, “I think it’s made us a stronger community.”
