Amazon founder Jeff Bezos denied a report that he is selling The Washington Post to fund a purchase of the Washington Commanders NFL team, according to CNN.  

Bezos visited the Post newsroom last Thursday for the first time in a year. A source told CNN that Bezos assured the senior staff that he had no plans to sell.  

But he hinted at an interest in buying the NFL team, saying football is his favorite sport.  

In December, Publisher Fred Ryan told the staff that there would be layoffs in a contentious town hall meeting that he reportedly stormed out of.

Also that month, Michael Bloomberg denied reports that he was interested in acquiring the Post and/or The Wall Street Journal. 

Last August, the New York Times wrote that the Post had than the three million paying digital subscribers it had boasted of it. And digital ad revenue fell by 15% in the first half of 2022 YOY to roughly $70 million.
