Steve Grove is stepping down as Minnesota’s commissioner of employment and economic development to become publisher and CEO of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. The appointment is effective in April.
Grove replaces Mike Klingensmith, who is retiring after serving the paper for 13 years.
Prior to joining Democratic Governor Tim Walz, Grove was a 12-year Google veteran and was co-founder and director of Google News Lab. He has also served at The Boston Globe and ABC News.
"As his history demonstrates, he is a true champion for Minnesota and Minnesotans,” states Star-Tribune owner Glen Taylor. “We’re fortunate to have an executive of his caliber—a true innovator—join our team and help us define the future of local journalism.”
