Sam Jacobs Named EIC At Time

Sam Jacobs has been named editor in chief of Time, effectively immediately.

The announcement was made on Monday by Time CEO Jessica Sibley.

Jacobs replaces Edward Felsenthal, who stepped down in March but who remains TIME’s executive chairman and a contributing editor.

At 37, Jacobs is the youngest editor to lead Time since co-founder Henry Luce, and is the 19th top editor in Time’s history.

During a decade at Time, Jacobs has reshaped the strategic direction of the editorial team. He has hired dozens of journalists worldwide and played a large role in integrating  Time’s newsroom across platforms.

Named deputy editor in 2019, Jacobs has overseen the company’s journalism across all platforms.

“During his decade as an editor at Time, Sam has played a critical role in driving impact and transformation,” Sibley says. “I am thrilled that Sam will lead Time’s newsroom, directing our trusted journalism and driving Time’s efforts to innovate, reach new audiences and build new platforms.”
