Elon Musk, who owns one of the largest information platforms in the U.S., has settled defamation case. But it didn’t concern Twitter--rather, it was filed by Randeep Hothi,
graduate student and critic whom Musk falsely accused in an email of almost killing a Tesla security guard security guard in the firm’s parking lot.
It wasn’t a big
settlement as defamation cases go—a mere $10,000. But it was “a belated acknowledgment that this case was just,” said D. Gill Sperlein, a lawyer for Hothi, according to
the Los Angeles Times.
The incident occurred in February 2019. Local law enforcement authorities reviewed a video of Hothi pulling out of the parking lot after being
told to leave and saw no reason to charge, the Times continues.
