The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) has announced a new slate of board members.
- Amanda Kludt, group publisher, lifestyle, Vox Media, was elected as president
of ASME by general consent, and will oversee the National Magazine Awards.
- Alison Overholt, adjunct professor, Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and
Founder, Good People LLC was elected as vice president.
- Joe Brown, publisher and editorial director, one5c, will serve as treasurer.
- Charles Whitaker,
dean, Medill School of Journalism, Northwestern University, secretary.
Joining the ASME Board of Directors for two-year terms are:
- Richard Dorment,
editor-in-chief, Men’s Health
- Sid Evans, editor in chief, Southern Living
- Ivylise Simones, creative director,
Slate; she will be the first creative director to sit on the ASME board
- Nikhil Swaminathan, chief executive officer, Grist.
“This may be an especially challenging time for our industry, but I look forward to working with this group to find ways to continue our support of our members, whether they’re editors
in chief of long-established titles or ASME NEXT-ers taking their first steps in print or online,” says Kludt, the first ASME president whose entire career has been spent in digital
media.
