This week healthy fast food purveyor Plant Power Fast Food announced it will introduce a plant-based vegan “Michigan Style” Coney Dog to its menu starting Oct. 21. Comedian Tim Robinson collaborated with the chain on the new limited-time offering.
Typically thought of as a New York Coney Island mainstay, the famous Coney Dog is actually originally a product of the state of Michigan, the chain (with locations only in California and Las Vegas) argues in a release. The Michigan version of the Coney is typically topped with a meaty chili sauce, mustard and finely chopped white onions. According to Wikipedia, other regional versions include the Detroit style, with chili without beans, the Flint style, a dry hot dog topped with a base of ground beef heart and the Jackson, which uses a topping of either ground beef or ground beef heart, onions and spices.

Michigan-born Robinson has led his own Netflix sketch comedy series “I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson” since 2019. The comedian got his start as a “Saturday Night Live” writer and performer, later developing his series “Detroiters” which ran from 2017-2018.
Plant Power Fast Food also launched a line of merchandise for the Coney Dog promotion, including limited-edition hats and T-shirts available online. The vegan Coney Dog will be available for $7.95 through November while supplies last.
Sales proceeds from the vegan dogs and merchandise will go to Youth Climate Save, a nonprofit led by Genesis Butler, an environmental and animal rights activist.
“Being able to channel our combined passions into supporting the incredible work of activist Genesis Butler is fulfilling as she continues to be a beacon of inspiration for our entire team,” said Zach Vouga, founder of Plant Power Fast Food, in a release.
