Star Tribune Sunday Print Magazine Is Being Shuttered: Report

The Star Tribune is sunsetting its Sunday print magazine, continuing an apparent industry trend.

Star Tribune Magazine has appeared every three months since 2017, according to Racket, a Twin Cities news provider. Readers will learn of the shuttering in the Nov. 19 magazine edition.

Staffers were notified of the change in a memo from Star Tribune publisher Steve Grove.

"The work has been an award-winning passion project of so many, and had delivered a great value to our print readers over time," Grove wrote, according to Racket. "Given the market dynamics, we believe we can better leverage this kind of journalism in ways that will deliver greater value to more people in the future."

The Star Tribune website describes the magazine as “brimming with features on dining, travel, arts, fashion and style designed for the largest Twin Cities audience of sophisticated and affluent adults.”

There probably won’t be any job loss, given that staffers and freelancers pitched in to keep the magazine going, Racket writes.

Last year, The Washington Post announced it was closing its Sunday magazine, resulting in the loss of 10 positions. But an internal email noted that some of the most popular content would be shifted to a revitalized online Style section.
