The Guardian US has hired two
reporters for its new investigations unit announced in October.
Melissa Segura joins the team as senior investigative reporter and George Joseph as investigative
reporter.
George Joseph comes to The Guardian US from The City, an award-winning, nonprofit news organization that covers New York politics, business and
society. He was a lead reporter on a probe that uncovered “straw donor” schemes for the benefit of the 2021 election campaign of Mayor Eric Adams. He previously worked as an
investigative reporter at WNYC Public Radio.
Segura previously worked as an investigative reporter for BuzzFeed News. While there, she authored the Polk Award-winning series,
“Broken Justice in Chicago,” on the plight of Latina women working to uncover evidence that their sons, brothers or husbands were framed. She also worked at Sports
Illustrated for 12 years.
The Guardian US investigations unit focuses on corporate and government misconduct, attacks on human rights and other challenges facing the United
States.
