Former 'Rolling Stone' EIC Noah Shachtman Reunites With 'Wired'

Noah Shachtman, who stepped down from his post as editor in chief of Rolling Stone only five days ago, has returned to Wired as a contributing editor.

Shachtman will write features and shorter enterprise pieces, and be a guest on Wired podcasts and in its newsletters.

He will assist with sourcing and tips, especially pertaining to political coverage this year. He also will help scout for talent.

Shachtman started writing for Wired.com as a freelancer in 1998, and became a contributing editor for the magazine in 2006. He co-founded and oversaw Danger Room, Wired’s national security blog.

In February, Shachtman announced his departure from Rolling Stone, reportedly over differences with Gus Wenner, the chief executive of Rolling Stone, over the magazine’s direction.

“It’s the right decision, one Gus Wenner and I made after many discussions about the direction of the brand,” Shachtman said in letter to the staff.

During his tenure, Rolling Stone won a Polk Award and its first Emmy nomination.

Shachtman has also served as editor in chief of The Daily Beast.
