The New York Times has promoted Laura Reston to the title of deputy op-ed editor.
Reston joined Opinion in 2021 as a senior editor. In addition to serving as co-leader
on politics, she edited Michelle Goldberg’s column.
In her new role, Reston will continue with those tasks, while also working with Eliza Barclay, Peter Catapano, Adam Sternbergh and
James Ryerson on guest essays focusing on climate, ideas and culture.
“Laura’s news instincts and creative approach have been on display in collaborations with Graphics to annotate
passages from Barack Obama’s lost book manuscript and produce scorecards for the Republican debates and the recent State of the Union speech,” op-ed editor Vanessa
Mobley wrote in announcing the appointment.
