McDonald's Responds To Public Complaints With $5 Meal Deal

In response to enormous public outcry for lower prices, as cited in a USA Today story, and the subsequent downturn in sales noted during a conference call with investors, the McDonald’s Value Meal has made its return to QSR menus nationwide.

McDonald’s finally headed the call for lower prices with the introduction of its own $5 Meal Deal, beginning for a limited time a select stores nationwide on June 25.

The meal includes a choice of a McDouble or McChicken sandwich; small fries; four piece Chicken McNuggets; and a small soft drink for $5.

"We heard our fans loud and clear – they're looking for even more great value from us, and this summer that's exactly what they'll get," said President of McDonald's USA Joe Erlinger in a release. "Value has always been part of our DNA. We're focused on living up to that legacy and offering delicious, affordable options customers can enjoy any time they walk through our doors, go through our Drive Thru or place an order through our app."

The meal deal will be promoted via a national media campaign including TV, online and social, among other media.

The burger behemoth is also promoting Free Fry Friday as an app-only promotion. App customers who spend at least $1 on any purchase can receive free fries on Fridays through the end of 2024. On National French Fry Day, Saturday, July 13, McDonald’s will give away free fries of any size for app users, with no purchase required.

The announcement also touted several regional deals across the country from various franchisees, with example such as like Buy One Get One for $1 breakfast sandwiches in Memphis, to Double Cheeseburger and small fries for $3.50 in Columbus, Ohio.

It is noted on the announcement that “prices and participation may vary,” as well as that “McDouble meal options may be priced at $6 at select restaurants in Alaska, California, Guam, Hawaii, Nevada, New York (Manhattan only) and Washington.”
