Derek Brower To Serve As U.S. News Editor Of 'Financial Times'

Financial Times has named Derek Brower as US news editor in New York to lead all day-to-day operations of FT’s American network.

In his new role, Brower will manage the nearly 90 editorial staffers the FT has in New York and bureaus in Washington DC, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Houston.

He will be responsible for coverage decisions on some of the most important topics across the FT report, including American politics, Wall Street banks, Silicon Valley tech giants and Texas oil majors.

Brower had served as US political news editor since 2023, steering FT’s coverage of the 2024 presidential election; he joined FT in 2020 as US energy editor.

“Derek’s ability to harness the FT’s editorial talent during the presidential campaign was a wonder to behold, and is one of the most important reasons we’ve seen such a huge increase in our American readership over the last 18 months,” said Peter Spiegel, US managing editor. “I can't think of anyone more qualified to lead the network going into the new Trump era.”

Brower succeeds Andrew Edgecliffe-Johnson, who is leaving to pursue other journalism projects.
